SAVE THE DATE! The 5th Annual Youth Violence Prevention Conference: YOUth Need YOU…What’s Keeping You from Getting Connected?

Description: We know that forming relationships with a caring adult is one of the best violence prevention tools we have, yet many adults find themselves unable or unwilling to form these relationship with at-risk youth. This conference is intended to help adults acknowledge, understand why, and work to remove any obstacles that may be preventing them from forming positive relationships with today’s at-risk youth. As with previous conferences, a gourmet lunch is included, prepared by the Junior Chefs, a youth leadership program sponsored by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina that provides mentoring relationships, life skills training and nutritional education to at-risk youth, demonstrating the importance of mentoring and after-school activities as powerful violence prevention strategies.

This conference has been organized by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Violence Prevention Committee, a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional workgroup with representation from law enforcement, healthcare, education, the faith community, and various youth service agencies
